Sweat is rushing down the faces of the candidates who are campaigning for Student Representative Council (SRC) f because they have to bring on their A game and convince the students as to why they deserve to be chosen as leaders for 2019.

On 3 October 2018 candidates presented their prepared speeches. This event was organised by the Student Relations Manager, Zukiswa November. Each candidate was given at least 5 minutes to win both the judges and fellow students since they are the students were going to vote for them. After presenting their speech they were asked questions by students whom were attending the auditions.

The SRC are elected every year by the students through a voting process. What makes them effective, is their participation in the college’s decision making. The SRC’s role is to manage students and to representing them. The SRC’s vital role is basically to be the voice of students.

The election time was the busiest time of the year on campus because, all the candidates went up and down, handing out pamphlets and posting posters with their names and photos so that they can be recognised. They campaigned to show off their potentials and that they really have what it takes to be leaders of tomorrow.

Not everyone can be a member of the SRC, but only devoted people who are willing to put the needs of their fellow students’ upfront. Some students complain that it is irritating to having SRC candidates coming in classes and disrupting learning sessions by asking fellow students to vote for them. “How can we vote if we don’t see change? These SRC members only want the benefits that come with being an SRC”, said Queen Ledwaba who is one of the students. Some students don’t even vote or have any interest in these elections.

Another student, Keamogetswe Monkge is also disturbed by the SRC's leadership. “The change that we see from the SRC is the way they do events, I feel like they only concentrate on events compared to other important aspects", she stated.
