The Rosebank College (RC) cafeteria, Slendaz Cafe operates every day. The food sold by the cafeteria is cost effective and the menu is designed to suite students. Variety of foods such as sphatlho (bunny chows), sandwiches, chips and other interesting foods, are offered at the cafeteria. “The best breakfast option on their menu is fresh bread and eggs, fresh fruits and fresh 100% juice”, said Koketso Ngwenya a student studying at RC.
Lunch meals include anything from whole-wheat sandwiches, stake and pap, kasi food Sphatlho (bunny chow) and grilled chicken. However students should avoid drinking fizzy drinks and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
The manager of Slendaz Cafeowner Sam states that it is true that they have ready-made meals, but most of the food which they sell is healthy. “We have sandwiches that are low GI, vegetables, and proteins”, said Sam.
Slendaz Cafe offers both healthy and unhealthy food because not all students prefer eating healthy food on a daily basis as some students desire sweet and oily foods.
“If we stop selling the kind of foods which they prefer, they will still buy what they want outside campus and the cafeteria will lose customers. This will contribute to loss of profit and it will result to the loss of jobs for the employees at the cafeteria”, said Sam.
Healthy food is not only good for health but also for the mind-set. Good nutrition helps when studying and keeps students full for a longer period.
Lectures and other campus workers purchase food from the Cafe. They also offer their services on events held or hosted by the school. They deliver ordered food which comes in bulks.
The food sold at the Cafe is recommended because it is affordable and mouth-watering. Despite the fact that the space at the Cafe is limited, hence students still enjoy the good vibe because the cafeteria accommodates everyone at once. Most students go to there to enjoy good food and music.
Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet makes students to feel better both physically and mentally, and students should try stop their unhealthy lifestyle of fast food and junk.
