The first step to healing is accepting that you have a problem, it takes courage and a strong person to admit that they have a problem, it doesn’t matter how big or small the problem is. Rosebank College (RC) is not only concerned about students getting their qualifications but it is also concerned about how they feel in terms of what they are going through.

Zukiswa November who is a Student Relations Manager (SRM), at RC listens to students with different problems. She intervenes and helps students battling with the issues of academics, emotions, relationships, pressure and physical violence. “I don’t do it because of money but I do it because I love it. Being a social worker is not just a profession to me but it’s a calling. Coming to Rosebank College, gave me hope, that I can change many lives and fulfil dreams by just listening and sharing”, said Zukiswa.

Students come to college having different problems which then disturbs them academically. Hence RC is like a second home, a place to open up and it’s all because Zukiswa is willing to help by her profession without judging the situation. It is however important for students to make use of councelling as a helpful resource. They should be willing to seek for help before it’s too late as some issues lead to depression and suicide.

“I chose Rosebank college because it’s a private sector and in a private sector you get to grow fast, the working environment is healthy it does not stress me a lot. I have learnt a lot in a short space of time”, said Zukiswa. She further added by saying that she is also a human being and that she does make mistakes but then she doesn’t take her personal problems to work. “Whenever I come to work I come with a positive mind-set. I don’t let my problems destroy me because depression is real. Seek help before your problems becomes your enemy. Be the boss over your own life”, she said.
